10 Ways to Get Kicked Out of a Library
Shushing doesn't work? Try these passive-aggressive tips
1. Pick the nose; put finger in book
The oils from your fingers will damage the pages, and the smell will linger in the library for hours.
2. Chew gum loudly
Popping gum is like nails on a chalkboard to some people. It's even worse in a quiet library.
3. Talk on your cell phone
Even if you're whispering, the sound of your voice will carry through the library. And if you're talking about something personal, you're just being rude.
4. Bring in food or drink
Food and drink are not allowed in most libraries. The crumbs and spills can damage the books and equipment.
5. Use the library as a meeting place
Libraries are not meant to be social gathering places. If you need to meet with someone, go to a coffee shop or a park.
6. Run around and play
Libraries are not playgrounds. Children should be supervised at all times, and they should not be allowed to run around and make noise.
7. Steal books
Stealing books is a crime. It's also a very selfish thing to do, because it deprives others of the opportunity to read those books.
8. Vandalize the books
Writing in books, tearing pages, or otherwise damaging them is a serious crime. It can also result in you being banned from the library.
9. Be rude to the staff
The library staff is there to help you. Be polite and respectful to them, even if you're frustrated.
10. Sleep in the library
Libraries are not meant to be used as shelters. If you're homeless, please seek help from a social service agency.
